Change Logs:

W27 (Woodland State) is no longer the flyout location. I am no longer associated with the chapter as the change was made post production. The skills are always the same, and the same message, before short field operations, get out and practice, especially with a qualified CFI.

Elevator Trim Stalls: what was demonstrated was for discussion purpose only, I never allowed the rapid pitch to stall to develop because that does not promote safe, sane and friendly flying. DO NOT ATTEMPT WITHOUT A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR! This is one of the leading fatal Loss of Control Accidents. Being in proper trim is the preventative.

Turns Back to The Airport: If you have not trained, and know your skill level, land straight ahead. My turn point is not yours, or vice versa. However, every safety briefing before T/O should verbalize what you will do. Don’t make it up, go out and train with a CFI.

PAPIs and VASIs – yes, non IFR approach airports have these, however they are required for approaches. My point is, as a VFR pilot, training for short fields, learn to use the spot method and do not become reliant on those aids.

Perfect Practice: After a discussion with a good pilot friend of mine, I think the term Proficient Practice is more applicable, perfection is not attainable. To quote my friend “Practice makes Better.” And this is where your CFI can work as a flying coach.

Once again, thank you for your continued commitment to pilot proficiency.
